- Azarax, Chapter 500 " ...In the Depths of a Nightmare"
Description.
Azarax is one of the two Supreme skeletons that was nailed on an ancient tree located in the Hell of Ariel. He participated in the Doom War on the side of the Daemons and was later captured and nailed on the ancient tree as a punishment for his crimes. [2]
He is a prideful ancient human, who views Sunny and Nephis as weak and young Supremes. He is also a knowledgeable man who helped Sunny and Nephis to learn more about the Hell of Ariel and the war that took place here. [3]
Later, Azarax promised Sunny and Nephis that he would guide them to the Tomb of Ariel and even conquer hell after he was freed from the tree, but as soon as Azarax was freed from the tree he told Sunny that he would regret freeing him and gave him a threat that he would kill him one day. [4]
Azarax kept his promise and guided them to the Tomb, each day he was slowly losing himself and becoming a mindless Deathless, during this journey he scorned at Sunny and Nephis for holding hands and called them pathetic for offending the very idea of what a Supreme is supposed to be. [5]
And at the end of the journey, Azarax had finally succumbed to the curse placed by Shadow god and became a mindless Deathless. [6]
Appearance.
Azarax had looked a little pathetic, hanging there on the tree. His personality, too, seemed overly domineering for someone who possessed a true kind of strength – those who were truly strong did not usually feel the need to constantly assert their dominance, after all.
But once the ancient tyrant regained his freedom, Sunny swiftly realized that he was truly a force to be reckoned with. He was an incredible ally to have... to the point that it was a little chilling.[7]
- Chapter 2884, "Ancient Menace"
Azarax, as a Supreme beast, was extremely strong and possessed a battle experience worth thousands of years. He was first seen by Nephis during her journey as a sleeper in the desert, he appeared as a weathered skeleton and introduced himself as Azarax the Mighty. [1]
Nephis choose Eurys as a guide, the other skeleton who was nailed on the tree along with Azarax, to take her through the desert and left Azarax behind on the tree alone.
Later we see Azarax again when Sunny and Nephis return to the desert, this time Azarax had appeared looking a little pathetic and still hanging there on the tree, and he seemed too overly domineering for someone who possessed true strength. [3]
At first Azarax was a flawless white skeleton, unlike the rest of the deathless of in hell who were black However, later during the journey to the Tomb of Ariel, Azarax was slowly losing his flawless white color and turning black, showing that he was slowly losing his mind like the rest of the Deathless.
In his final appearance, Azarax had turned completely black and has succumbed to curse placed by Shadow god, becoming mindless just like the rest of the Deathless.
Notable Abilities.
There were three things that made Azarax so fearsome.
First and foremost was his skill as a warrior. Both Sunny and Nephis were astonishing combatants in their own right, but even they had to admit that Azarax was a daunting opponent. He was ferocious, vicious, and devastating, moving across the desert like a raging storm – but, at the same time, he was deeply cunning and eerily astute, guiding the obliterating power of his wrath with surgical precision and cynical malice.
Most of all, he was experienced. A storied conqueror and a veteran of the Doom War, Azarax possessed a wealth of combat experience that they could not hope to match – could not even fathom, maybe, considering how young they were in relation to the ancient tyrant. [7]
- Chapter 2884, "Ancient Menace"
Azarax was described as a fearsome warrior, because he had an amazing mastery over his Will, combined with his Aspect, and his skill which he developed from his battle experience that spans over thousands of years.
He is also described as ferocious, vicious, and devastating, while also being deeply cunning, and eerily astute, guiding his obliterating power with surgical precision, and cynical malice. [7]
Azarax also had a Will that was so refined that the current Supremes cannot replicate due to the huge difference in experience. He had spent thousands of years learning to wield his will, and bend the world as he wished.
His will possessed an innate affinity that is unlike those tied to concepts. As a supreme being, it was told that his will only expressed one concept, and that concept is himself. This means that his will is entirely self centered, and only about his existence. [8]
Aspect.
[Aspect Name]: Unknown
[Aspect Rank]: Unknown[Dormant Ability]: His Dormant ability is the foundation of his conquest, Azarax became stronger every time he killed a living being, the augmentation he received from this allowed his power to bring down a mountain with a single blow, and made his body and bones indestructible.
[Awakened Ability]: His Awakened ability allows him to turn every living being he defeated in single combat into his thrall. This ability is what allowed Azarax to earn his title "Plague of Steel"
[Ascendant Ability]: His Ascended ability allows him to amplify his presence and use it as a weapon. His presence can be manifested as an oppressive power that weakens enemies, and also be manifested as a physically applied pressure which can crush his enemies to dust.
[Transcendent Ability]: His Transcendent ability is unclear. It was speculated to be his ability to change his size, becoming a colossus, or it might just be another application of his Will.
[Supreme Ability]: His Supreme ability extends the boons of his aspect to his vassal warriors. His warriors grew stronger every time they killed a living being, and they also emitted the pressure that weakens enemies, and makes them feel dread. Since these warriors belong to his Domain, every time they increase in strength, Azarax also becomes stronger. [7][Aspect Legacy]: Unknown
[Flaw Name]: Unknown
[Flaw effect]: Unknown
This information about his Aspect was not revealed by Azarax himself, as he kept most details about his Aspect hidden. But, his Aspect and abilities could be deduced from observing him in battle. [7]
History.
"Did I ever say that it was the Dragon who defeated me? No, I only said that it was a champion of War God. My conquest of the mortal realms had been unstoppable, and I was well on the way to subjugating them all... until my great conquering horde besieged a small city protected by a War Maiden. They were an ancient order of warrior priestesses who had once served a different avatar of War God in a bygone era. That avatar was long gone, but the covenant between War God and them still remained."[9]
- Chapter 2856, "Palace Slave"
Azarax became the "Plague of Steel", and Supreme after killing his Supreme father, he is also currently known by other titles, such as "King of Kings" and "Conqueror of a Hundred Thrones". He fought on the side of the Daemons in the Doom War, and hates anyone who serves the gods. [2]
It has been speculated that Azarax had been active since the latter part of the Age of Heroes, as seen from his Will control, and also because he was the ruler of an empire that was older than the War Empire. [7]
Early Life.
Azarax revealed that he has never bowed to any god, instead many realms bowed to him instead. But, he said that his own empire was eventually brought down by a champion of War God, after which the War Empire was built upon the destruction of his empire, and even fashioned after the image of his empire.[10]
He later talked about his experiences of conquest, describing how his unstoppable army was eventually destroyed by a War Maiden that was protecting a city, which later destroyed his empire.
These War Maidens were formidable warriors and defenders, capable of stopping the conquest of Azarax's armies. There was one specific War Maiden who was responsible for protecting a city, her actions led to the destruction of Azarax's army and empire.
After Azarax defeated her, she was cast into hell for breaking the divine covenant that the War Maidens had with the War God. [9]
Current Life.
After Azarax joined the Doom War and eventually got cursed by Shadow God, he was nailed to a tree, and later he was found by Nephis on her journey in the desert. He offered to guide Nephis to the Underworld if she freed him from the tree, but Nephis freed Eurys instead and later continued on her journey, leaving Azarax behind.
A few years after that, Sunny and Nephis both returned to the desert and helped Azarax to get out of the tree, and in return Azarax has to guide them to the Tomb of Ariel. [2]
During the journey, Azarax was slowly succumbing to the curse placed by Shadow God and was losing parts of himself. Finally at the end of the journey, Azarax had completely lost himself to the curse, becoming like the rest of the mindless Deathless. [6]
Personality.
The Soul Devourer was not just any shade – it was the shadow of what Azarax dreaded most, even if he was not willing to admit it. It was his own personal nightmare. [11]
- Chapter 2911, "Mind Killer"
Azarax is described as prideful, confident in his abilities, and someone who sees himself as a fearsome person. His personality seemed overly domineering for someone who possessed a true kind of strength, because those who were truly strong did not usually feel the need to constantly assert their dominance. However once he was free, it was shown that he was truly a force to be reckoned with. [7]
Later, it was shown that Azarax had a deep fear of the Soul Devouring Tree. When Sunny summoned the tree, Azarax came to a halt, his shoulders trembled slightly, and he moved slowly as if overcome by a deep, inescapable fear. This fear of the tree originates from his painful memories of being nailed to the sacred tree for thousands of years, powerless, and unable to escape. The Soul Devourer was then described as the shadow of what Azarax dreaded the most, and his own personal nightmare. [11]
Relationships.
"If he and I were to become swallowed by the curse together, I would have been able to crush, shatter, and mutilate that wretched worm for all eternity! I would have destroyed him a thousand times... ten thousand times! I would have visited a vicious death upon him for every accursed day I had to spend in his excruciating company!"[9]
- Chapter 2856, "Palace Slave"
Azarax views himself as a person who is far more fearsome than Eurys the Godslayer. He had spent thousands of years on the sacred tree with Eurys by his side, so when he finally found out what happened to Eurys after being released, he first showed an uncharacteristic show of sentimentality by saying that he wished to join the battle against the Deathless with Eurys. However, he then expressed that he wanted to crush Eurys for eternity, because of every accursed day that he was forced to spend in his company. The hatred in his voice for Eurys was said to be comparable to the hatred Azarax expressed when he sensed the legacy of Shadow God in Sunny. [9]
Trivia.
"Don't you know where you are, abominable creature?! I am here because I led my armies into the great war, slaughtered a myriad of souls, and was punished for my strength and my pride!"[1]
- Chapter 500, "...In the Depths of a Nightmare"
Azarax was known as the "Plague of Steel" for his Awakened ability. [7]
Azarax said that he himself had made one or two realms into hell. [12]
Azarax killed his Supreme father as a Transcendent. [13]
It has been speculated that Azarax hasn't killed a Cursed abomination yet, as he remained silent after Sunny asked him if he did. [14]
