Forsaken Knight
nightmare creature" There were two scarlet flames burning in the impenetrable emptiness behind the visor of the knight's helmet. Looking at them, Sunny felt as though he was staring into the eyes of death itself." [1]
- Chapter 180, "Break Point."
Description
The Forsaken Knight (Also referred to as the "Black Knight") was the fallen devil who guarded the Ruined Cathedral in the Dark City, on the Forgotten Shore.[2]
Appearance
" The creature was more than two meters tall, his gothic armor forged from a lusterless, anthracite steel. Every part of the armor was decorated with intricate engravings that told a tale so horrifying that anyone would go insane from looking at them for too long.
The helmet of the Black Knight was crowned with curved horns that might have been wings once. In the narrow fissure of his visor, two ghastly red flames were burning with indescribable menace." [3]
- Chapter 99, "Pursuit."
The Forsaken Knight was a tall nightmare creature decorated in a knight's armor, wielding an enormous and heavy black blade.
Its true form was only apparent once his sword was broken. The black steel of his armor started to rust, it swiftly turned dull brown, its luster gone, and its once impregnable surface looked corroded and brittle. He then resembled a ghostly colossus made of darkness and rusting steel. [4]
Abilities
" When wrapped in the darkness present in the Ruined Cathedral, the Forsaken Knight can move fast, unseen, and without making a single sound. His physical traits are vastly enhanced, turning him into an unstoppable engine of slaughter.
What's more, any damage done to him is instantly repaired as long as he is surrounded by the darkness. Inside of it, he was seemingly immortal. "[5]
- Chapter 266, "The Devil You Know."
The Forsaken Knight was strong, fast, and seemingly indestructible. His strength was attributed to the darkness present in the Ruined Cathedral's grand hall. His black blade was able to effortlessly cut through flesh, bone, and armor.[3][5] It was unclear if the darkness was summoned here by the Forsaken Knight, or if it simply obeyed him.[2]
In his true form, without his sword, the Forsaken Knight attacked with harrowing fury using his hands and claws.[4]
Behavior
The Forsaken Knight patrolled the Grand Hall of the ruined cathedral, and would kill anyone who dared to venture inside.[6] Guarding the hidden chamber, the Forsaken Knight never went beyond the doorway of the cathedral.[1]
He was often reluctant to put his blade in harm's way, receiving the most powerful blows with his body instead of blocking or reflecting them with his sword.[5]
Notable Encounters
Sunny first encountered the Forsaken Knight a few weeks after he left the Bright Castle behind. In this encounter, it took a single second for the Forsaken Knight to sneak up and skewer Sunny with his sword. With extreme reflexes, Sunny was dodge subsequent attacks, throwing and using [Ordinary Rock] as a distraction, allowing him to barely escape into a nearby ditch, although extremely injured.[1]
The second and final encounter of the Forsaken Knight was after the expedition to the edges of the Forgotten Shore. In exchange for Sunny's help during that expedition, the cohort agreed to help Sunny kill the Forsaken Knight once they return.[7] This time, the cohort provided support while Stone Saint fought the Forsaken Knight in battle. After the Forsaken Knight unveiled his true form, the battle ended with the Stone Saint delivering a crushing blow to the his chest, tearing through his rusted armor, killing him instantly.[8][4]
Relationships
Stone Saint
" It was just that in front of the intricate stonelike armor of the Shadow, the devil's own formidable full plate, which had been masterfully forged from indestructible black steel, seemed almost crude. Facing the original masterpiece, he looked like a clumsy imposter. " [8]
- Chapter 268, "Clash."
The general appearances and the design of the armaments of Stone Saint and the Forsaken Knight were eerily similar.[8]
Upon defeating the Forsaken Knight, Stone Saint took and consumed a strange, beautiful, and ominous gem. The gem was utterly black, as though suffused with impenetrable darkness. Deep within that black void, crimson flames burned with a menacing red glow that was pulsating in a slow and bizarre rhythm. The gem appeared like a soul shard, but radiated an intense glow more similar to an entire soul. The crimson flames burning in the depths of the black gem had four flames for the four cores of Fallen Devil. Upon consuming this gem, the Stone Saint started her class evolution process, turning from a Monster into a Demon[9][10]
