Moonlight Shard
memoryDescription
"When the stars were extinguished and fell, a lonely moon remained in the empty sky. With no sun to shine upon it, the moon grew dim, withered, and died. As the last remnants of moonlight were devoured by darkness, one small shard was forged into this subtle blade."
Chapter 262 "Path to Damnation"
All seven Shard Memories were special, each capable of existing after their owner’s death and serving the hidden purpose of summoning the Oath Key.[1]
The Moonlight Shard was known for its unique enchantment, allowing it to be summoned instantly, unlike other Memories, which required time to manifest.
Enchantments
[Unseen]: Forged from moonlight, this blade appears in the hand of its wielder without delay.[2]
Notable Holders
Sunless
Received the Memory through a trade with Nephis. In exchange for giving the Dusk Shard to Effie, Nephis gave Sunless the Moonlight Shard, as it suited his style better.[3]
History
The Nightmare Creature that gave the Moonlight Shard Memory is unknown, as Nephis obtained it during Sunny’s absence from her cohort. Based on the Memory’s Rank and Tier, it can be assumed that it came from killing a Fallen Beast. Sunny later received it through a trade with Nephis.[2]
During Sunny’s confrontation with Harus, he was disarmed, the weapon sent far away. As Sunny was being held, he summoned the Moonlight Shard and stabbed it into his Harus temple killing him instantly.[4]
During the Siege of the Crimson Spire, while fighting the Knight, the Slayer, and the Priestess Golems, Sunny summoned the Moonlight Shard, pairing it with the Midnight Shard and weakening his offense in exchange for greater defense.
After the Siege of the Crimson Spire, during the final confrontation between Sunny and Nephis, she spoke his True Name. Sunny moved before he even realized it, summoning the Moonlight Shard to strike her, but stopped mere centimeters from Nephis eye when she commanded him to stop.[5]
While using Shadow Step, a Sailor Doll lunged at Sunny. Sunny used Cruel Sight to fend it off. The Sailor Doll, now heavily damaged, was finished off when Sunny used the Moonlight Shard.[6]
During his battle with Master Pierce, Sunny summoned the Moonlight Shard and aimed it at his throat, concealing its true purpose—buying time for Cruel Sight to fully manifest. Later in the same battle, Sunny used the same tactic again, throwing the Moonlight Shard as a distraction before launching Cruel Sight immediately afterward killing Master Pierce[7][8]
Struggling to keep fighting in his weakened state, Sunny summoned Moonlight Shard, since it was a weapon that didn’t require a lot of strength to wield. Dipping Moonlight Shard into Bitter Cusp, he moved to finish off the Nightmare Creatures Nightmare was fighting.[9]
After the events of the Third Nightmare, Sunny lost access to the Spell. Alongside that, he also lost most of his memories, including the Moonlight Shard.[10]
Trivia
Throughout Sunny’s career as an awakened, the [Unseen] has been one of the few weaves he still cannot replicate to this day.
As a Master within the Third Nightmare, Sunny attempted to recreate it with little success, mentioning that although he came close to completing it, the final segment always slipped through his fingers. Currently, he is only capable of creating a modified version of it.[1][11]
As a Supreme, while weaving an enchantment for Kai’s arrows, Sunny attempted to recreate a modified version of the Unseen. However, he soon changed his mind, realizing that too many complications could appear from using it.[12]
