Mountain King
nightmare creatureDescription
The Mountain King was an Awakened Tyrant that resided in the Black Mountains, serving as the main threat to Sunny in the First Nightmare.
Appearance
The creature had two stumpy legs, an emaciated, hunched torso, and disproportionately long, multijointed hands-two of them, each ending with a set of horrifying bone claws, and another two, shorter ones ending with almost human-like fingers. Its fur was yellowish-gray and ragged. On its head were five milky white eyes. Beneath them, a terrible maw, crowded with razor-sharp teeth, was half-open.[1]
Abilities
As a Tyrant, the Mountain King was capable of commanding minions—lesser Nightmare Creatures. Whenever it killed something, it could cause the body to undergo a metamorphosis, transforming it into a Nightmare Creature known as the Mountain King’s Larva.[1]
Behavior
Once the Mountain King attacks and kills its prey, the body undergoes a metamorphosis, turning into a larva that helps the Mountain King hunt. Once it finishes hunting, it consumes the bodies. It has an amazing sense of smell and hearing. Its major weakness is that the Mountain King is blind.[1][2][3]
Habitat
Within the heart of the Sword Domain lies a mountain chain known as the Black Mountain. The Mountain King resided there during the dusk of the Golden Age, just before the Doom War.[4][5]

Notable Encounters
Within the First Nightmare, the Mountain King was the main threat to Sunny, hunting him and the other survivors of the attack up Black Mountain.[1]
Serpent assumed the form of the Mountain King, using its ability to infect others with larvae and turn them into minions. With Sunny’s help, the Mountain King infected various types of Nightmare Creatures to test them against the Winter Beast.[7]
Trivia
After discovering the appearance of the Snow Tyrant, Sunny realized that the Cursed Tyrant Moth is the same species that infected the Mountain King. Whether it is the same one that infected the Mountain King or a completely different one remains unknown.[8]
