The Blessing
memoryDescription
[Overview of the Memory — its form, origin, and properties.]
The sword... was both familiar and strange. It looked very similar to her faithful
and reliable companion, the Dream Blade. But it was also so much more.
It was much more striking, to start. The narrow and flawlessly straight blade
seemed to shine in the splendid rays of sunlight, so bright that it was almost
blinding. The ivory hilt felt cool and welcoming in her hand, as if it was meant
to be there. The design of the sword was simple and elegant, with no needless
embellishments or adornments. However, there was graceful beauty to the few
stylistic elements it did possess... it was pure and true to its purpose, alien to all
compromise and pretense, just as a killing implement was supposed to be.
There was also a chillingly lethal aura to it that was both cold and scorching, as
if the sword possessed a presence of its own. [1]
Blessing was a sword reforged by Sunny for Nephis, as a sword to slay the Gods.
It was forged from the Dream Blade, a memory Nephis received from her First Nightmare. The Dream Blade had accompanied Nephis from the very start of her journey, be it the Forgotten Shore, the lonely expanses of the Dream Realm, or her Second Nightmare. So it served as the perfect framework to forge Nephis' weapon out of. Additionally the Blessing was forged as a blade that would grow and change with Nephis.[2][3]
The forging of the Blessing consisted of three steps.
Reforging
The first step:
Sunny began by shattering the silver blade of the Dream Blade into countless pieces. He did not allow it to turn into sparks of light and disappear however, instead he Willed the sparks to flow according to his design. At the same time, he grasped the collapsing weave to stop it from crumbling.
To complete the sword he used several different materials. For the alloy he used the ice of the Winter Beast, the blessed metals, and a few others. He used his own blood as a binding agent to connect all of the different elements of the Blessing. He used one of the arrowheads he had gotten in the Shadow Realm. Perhaps the most important element of all was Nephis' own Soul Flames. [4][5]
Sunny used Nephis' own immolating flames to melt all of his materials, especially the Winter Beasts frozen heart, to create a mystical alloy worthy of its wielder.
Once all of the melted, incandescent, alloy had reached a state of equilibrium, Sunny guided the liquid into a mold he had prepared. At the same time he Willed the molten metal to swallow the bright sparks of essence that he had kept at bay.
After the metal had cooled off, Sunny began hammering the metal into the shape of the sword it was meant to be. During this process the blade eventually began absorbing the Soul Flame around it, and becoming one with it.[6]
The second step:
This step took place in Nephis' dream of her Soul Sea, where one half of the Blessings Weave would be created.
Sunny, unlike Mordret, could not step into other people's Soul Seas, instead he decided to use Nightmare's ability to enter the dreams of others to access the next best thing. The Dream of a Soul Sea, here he had four incarnations with him. One served as the conduit for Nephis' power, and two more were weaving strings out of her radiant essence.
The last one, and the most important of the bunch, was weaving the vast spellweave that he had designed for the Blessing. This weave unlike all the others used one of Nephis' Soul Cores as an anchor, rather than soul shards. To be specific, her Beast Core.
Sunny continued to work on the weave to the degree that it eventually spanned out in every direction. Another incarnation of sunny wove another intricate weave in the outside world. One very similar to the one that he was weaving inside of the dream but also different. In the end the two were tied together to make one vast spellweave.[3] [7]
The third step:
The physical vessel of the sword was complete, and so was its weave. The last remaining step was to bind it to Nephis. Sunny used Weavers needle and Willed it to pierce the intangible shadows of both Nephis and the Blessing. In doing so his Will clashed with the laws of the world itself, forcing it to allow the binding. He wove countless connections between the shadow of Nephis and the shadow of Blessing drawing the two to one another. [7]
It's worth noting that Sunny did not and was not able to complete the spellweave of the blessing personally, instead he relied on The Spell. Sunny only wove the groundworks of all but one enchantment. The Spell not only finished them, but also created one of its own.[1] [8]
Enchantments
[Bound]: It makes the memory the same Rank and Class as its wielder.[8]
[Dream Blade]:
Passive: Increased resistance against soul attacks, as well as an increase rate of both soul essence regeneration and spirit essence absorption. It also allows Nephis to draw upon her source element, even when the people under her Domain were asleep. [8]
[Flame Conduit]: It had two functions. One allowed the Blessing to serve as a fulcrum for Neph's
flames, channelling them in a more compressed and focused manner. The second function was more subtle. It drew upon the nature of the blessed alloy and the innate affinity of the soul sword to Neph's soul flame, increasing the efficiency of her Dormant Ability when applied to the Blessing. [9]
[Purifying Light]: The sword was stronger and more deadly when wielded against creatures who had succumbed to Corruption.[9]
[Change]: It allowed the Blessing to change both its shape, form and state of matter.[9]
[Ruin]: Granted the Blessing a Death Will of its own.[9]
[Blessing of the Fire]: Increases the power and lethality of the Blessing in direct proportion to how heavily Neph's soul was damaged.[9]
Notable Holders
As the Blessing is a Shadowbound memory, its only wielder is Nephis.
